Youth Director Job Description
This is a part time position (20 hrs/wk)

Qualifications

The Youth Director should be a person who:
1. Demonstrates personal spiritual maturity and integrity.
2. Is in theological agreement with the church’s purpose and mission.
3.  Has relevant education and related experience to qualify for this position.
4. Is able to communicate and operate effectively within contemporary youth culture.
5. Is flexible, good natured and a self-starter.
6. Demonstrates caring for the youth, their faith, their life and their future in and outside the church through programs and development of personal relationships.
7. Able to pass state personal investigation.

Responsibilities
1.  Establish and work closely with the Pastor and Youth Council in planning the youth program and incorporating the church’s objectives

into it. Objectives include:
2. Organize, direct, maintain and participate in the church’s program for the junior and senior high youth.
3.  Lead in involving the youth fully in the life of the local church, district and conference youth activities, camping programs, and service projects. Should participate in at least two events with other churches, with at least one of those events being a district or conference event.
4.  Develop a yearly youth program plan, with input from the Pastor, Youth Council and youth.  Balance the areas of worship, spiritual growth, prayer, outreach/service, and community. There should be a weekly program with each program containing: worship, Bible study, prayer, and a fun activity. There should be at least four outreach events per year with one of them being a mission trip. There should be on average one fellowship event per month.
5. Produce a calendar, youth newsletter or list serve, bulletin boards keeping youth and parents informed well in advance of upcoming events and activities.
6.  Write or assist youth with writing articles for the church newsletter and website telling the church membership about the youth program and activities.
7. Be available and in touch with youth.  Develop a trusting relationship with youth. Attend as many of the students’ extracurricular activities as reasonably possible.
8. Be responsible for implanting and following the Safe Sanctuary policy regarding youth.
9. Be in attendance on Sunday mornings for announcements, meeting and greeting, and questions and answers.
10. Establish a curriculum or study plan that includes: Creation, History (characters and events), General Christian Knowledge (i.e. God, Trinity, Holy Spirit, Baptism, Truth of Scripture, etc.), Jesus and His Teachings, Salvation, Discipleship (i.e. Evangelism, Worship, Bible Study, Prayer, Tithing/Offering, etc.), Christian Living (dealing with struggles), World Religions, and Methodist History and Basic Theology.

Working Relationships
The Youth Director will report directly to the Pastor, while remaining accountable to the Staff Parish Relations Committee, and receive guidance and support from the Youth Council.
